About Craig
Thanks for visiting my blog, there are a million things out there competing for your attention so I do appreciate it.
I’m a writer. It’s the one thing I’ve done well over the past 25 years. I’ve also been an editor, a talk show host, producer, and a content manager, but the base has always been writing.
I’ve been lucky enough to reach millions of readers with my articles about (but not limited to: style tips for the average guy, fatherhood, and the Sexiest Women Over 40 on MSN. Anything to make the average guy think and laugh.
I basically write about what interests guys who’ve found themselves bearing down on middle age with mouths to feed.
My career has taken me from content jobs with start-ups to some of the biggest and most powerful companies in the world. Somehow I found myself on the cutting edge of technology with the Internet boom of the late 90′s and now the ever-changing world of mobile content.
After graduating from Washington State University I began my assault on the world.
- Dove head-first into the Internet boom of the late 90’s agreeing to host a talk-show for a streaming media company Talkspot.com. “Not the News” was an edgier slam on political talk radio and pop culture. I also co-hosted a show with the legendary Morton Downey Jr. (hell of a nice guy).
- Worked in radio as a sports talk show host, producer, and a disk jockey spinning “Classic Hits.”
- Worked as a production assistant for “The NFL on Fox.”
- Hired by Microsoft as a writer for NFL Fever, a licensed NFL football game for the Xbox that went on to sell over a million copies. The Seattle Times did a piece about how cool that job was here.
- Launched two websites working for MSN, one of which was a Men’s Lifestyle site where I also went on to write many articles including the infamous “Minivan Article”. Also created an online fantasy football game with Fox Sports.
- Learned all about the Internet working for Akamai Technologies. Smartest people I’ve ever worked with.
- Today I manage a mobile editorial team that is setting the mobile content and video world on fire, responsible for over 20 million users a month.
Thirteen years as a father and many more as a coach has allowed me to mold a unique, funny and honest perspective on parenthood in a way that most can easily relate to. My mission is to make sure we’re not raising a generation of wimps.
I live in a suburb of a suburb of Seattle with my three kids and two dogs.
I’ve also been a guest on radio and TV stations across the country talking about anything from fatherhood to Van Halen. You can reach me at playstead@hotmail.com.
Other useless tidbits:
- Was on the phone with John Ritter’s manager for an interview when Talkspot.com went under. The dream interview.
- Was a very mediocre disc jockey spinning overnight hits at a small AM station in Olympia, WA during the early 90′s going by both “Craig Cortez” and “Craig Kelly”. The freaks actually do come out at night.
- Once auditioned Murdock from the A-Team for a voice-over role in a video game. It didn’t go well.
- Worked with major content partners during my career such as MTV, Fox Sports, NBC, Esquire, Popular Mechanics, and Apple.
